Faculty and Administrator Perceptions of Academic Integrity: A Survey

The Center for Intellectual Property at the University of Maryland University College is embarking on a study of perceptions of administrators and faculty concerning academic dishonesty among students. The CIP is studying the use of honor codes/pledges and academic integrity policies at select Asynchronous Learning Network (ALN) institutions.

As you may be aware, institutions across the country are grappling with academic dishonesty on their respective campuses. Institutions need information about the strategies being used to prevent academic dishonesty, the perceived prevalence of academic dishonesty at colleges and universities, the types of student behavior cited most frequently as being problematic, and identification of the tools and resources most frequently used to detect and prevent practices that undermine student learning and quality scholarship.

The results of this study will be disseminated in the form of a print publication. In addition, as a service to the higher education community, the results will be available in digital format from the Center’s Web page. The need for this data is critical and the survey is designed to assist the Center meet the expressed need for more information on this issue within the higher education community.

VAIL Faculty Pilot

The CIP seeks to investigate the usefulness and application of VAIL resources in the classroom. The VAIL project and portal were developed to support the three (3) pillars of online education identified by Frank Mayadas as critical to successful online learning. These pillars are: learning effectiveness, faculty satisfaction, and student satisfaction. This faculty pilot will allow the CIP to assess how well the VAIL portal is meeting the ALN goals.
