The Library of Congress is blogging about rare Civil War documents that reveal the personal experiences of those affected by the war. Benjamin Tucker Tanner (1835-1923), a minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, wrote in his diary with a sense of awe about the coming war:
"The country seems to be bordering on a civil war all on account of slavery. I pray God to rule and overrule all to his own glory and the good of man."
Tanner's diary and many other important historical items are on display onsite in the Library of Congress's exhibition "The Civil War in America" from now until June 1, 2013, and are available online, too.
