The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the generations of women whose commitment to nature and the planet have proved invaluable to society.

If you are researching topics in Women's Studies, make sure to check out the resources provided by the U.S. government at http://womenshistorymonth.gov/

The UMUC library also has excellent resources for researching topics in Women's Studies.  The databases Gender Watch and Contemporary Women's Issues, along with numerous other resources, can be found in the Women's Studies subject guide.

  • approximately 5,800 marriages take place in the US every day?
  • romantic-sounding places in the US include Romeo, CO; Darling, MN; and Valentine, TX.

Happy Valentine's Day!

African American History Month

|
SojournerTruth.jpgThe Library of Congress and other government agencies help us celebrate African American History Month with a Web site full of inspiring, educational content.

As the Web site explains, this year's theme is "Black Women in American Culture and History," honoring "African American women and the myriad of roles they played in the shaping of our nation. The theme, chosen by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History urges all Americans to study and reflect on the value of their contribution to the nation."

The photograph at right, of Sojourner Truth, is from the Library of Congress Web site.

UMUC's Office of Diversity Initiatives is honoring African American History Month as part of the Office's Heritage Month Series.
