Copyright Confusion

The New York Times reports on a rock-and-roll copyright lawsuit.

According to the Times article, folksinger Jake Holmes claims that his 1967 song "Dazed and Confused" was taken by supergroup Led Zeppelin, who recorded their iconic hit of the same title in 1968.

If you are dazed and confused by copyright law and what constitutes fair use, read the UMUC library's copyright primer, which explains the basic principles in clear, easy-to-understand terms. And a wealth of copyright knowledge is available at UMUC's renowned Center for Intellectual Property.

Today is National Doughnut Day, which actually began with the Salvation Army, whose female volunteers (known as "doughnut lassies") served the comforting treats to soldiers in World War I.

While celebrating today with your favorite glazed, frosted, or cream-filled variety, you can read up on doughnut lore in anthropologist Paul Mullins' book Glazed America: A History of the Doughnut, available for borrowing through our online library catalog.

Our library database Business Source Complete helps you keep track of food industry giants like Dunkin' Donuts and Krispy Kreme.

Of course, National Doughnut Day has to be enjoyed in moderation while maintaining a healthy balanced diet.
